Things To Do For Fun – My Top Three

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post, but this does NOT cost you anything extra! Check out my full disclosure for more info.

Have you recently stopped to think about where you are or where you are going?

Even though many are still social distancing, many are still reluctant to go outside.

Have you stopped to do anything fun today?

Do you even know what fun is anymore?

There is so much that this life has to offer.

I started thinking about life as I woke up today and drank my coffee (by the way, here is the best cup of coffee you can make anywhere!).

I won’t get all crazy on you, but instead, ask a straightforward question. What do you do for fun? If you need some ideas, here are my top three.

Getting Outdoors

Last week, I started listing what I am passionate about and enjoy doing.

I was surprised at what was all on the list but found a common theme. They all involved outdoor-related ideas such as hiking, biking, camping, shooting, and traveling.

So to make a long story short, it is all about the love of the outdoors. It does not matter if I’m walking or camping.

There is something about the fresh air, stillness, and peace. This is quite simple, and I feel most myself when in nature.

Just yesterday, I went on a hike!

It’s been a while (my last hike was during my last road trip, which was cut short by the dang virus). But it was so nice to get outside. And the beer at the end tasted so good!

On a side note, I am not sore today if you are wondering. What I mean is that I do not have pain in my hamstrings or hips. I don’t even have (three) blisters on my feet, and no, I’m not feeling old at all right now.

Going back to the outdoors, another passion of mine is biking.

Something about being in nature and flying down the street or trail exists. Recently I started leaning more into the roadie side but still enjoy a good mountain bike ride. I just signed up for a fantastic ride (a local Chaplaincy sponsor for law enforcement) in a few short months!

This reminds me, I need to start riding more!

Getting Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Yep, for some, that means traveling to a place where you don’t speak the language. So how do you feel about the adventures to far-off places?

Having a variety of places to explore is exciting and fun. You not only learn more about yourself, but depending on where you are, you get to learn about other cultures.

I remember my first trip to Europe. I was excited and a bit nervous. I don’t speak any other language, and it’s pretty bad when I try.

But by the first few days, I realized what people were talking about when they said you could get the “Travel bug.”

Yep, it’s real, and that is all I want to do. I have found that I enjoy and want to go and experience different cultures. I feel this has also allowed me to become even more appreciative of what I have.

Most recently, staying local has been great.

Mainly due to everything else being closed. But it has also helped put my travel bug at ease.

An added benefit currently is that I can take more time off from work, yet another reason I’m happy to have resigned from my last job.

Some of the places are a few minutes to a few hours away. But it’s great to be able to have the ability to explore my local area.

When I have more time, a road trip is a MUST!

I live in the US, and there is so much to experience here. I keep thinking of more places I want to explore and experience with my own eyes.

After all, there are lots of people that come here for their holiday (aka vacation). Since my last road trip got cut short, I still have places I need to check out!

Life Is An AdventureA mug with forest in the background, the mug says, "The Adventure Begins"

It is enjoyable to realize that there are adventures around every corner.

This reminds me. I was watching the TV show Community, and in the episode, a teacher had a class on Carpe Diem, seize the day!

The main character was failing because he was faking seizing the day in his attempt to get an easy A.

Something that led me to my situation was the remember that life is short, and we must enjoy it.

If we remember that life is an adventure, we can find excitement everywhere we look. There will always be stressful times, but overall, life is good.

Life Is Short

I know this is not a news flash, but it’s one thing to remember. There is one thing in this life that is very valuable and precious. That one thing is time.

Over the last two years, I have had many changes happen in my life.

It has taken me a while to realize this, but I feel that enjoying your time in this world is very important.

After all, how does working all day at a job you don’t like affect you and those around you?

I also realized that whatever has happened in the past is just that, the past.

You cannot change it (or at least not yet). Remembering this might help you move on.

The one thing you can change is your future. Case and point, one thing I have been interested in is starting my blog. And it makes me happy that you are here and reading it!

I genuinely believe that finding your passions will make you happier, and others around you will wonder what you are doing.

You will be happy to start each day and find fun in all you do.

Back on a personal note, I decided on a few other life-changing goals. I decided that I am going to do something physical every day (stretching, yoga, going to the gym, bodyweight or home workout, bike ride, hiking).

The second thing I have is to read every day. This is not something that I have enjoyed doing over my life, but there are many exciting books out there (on blogs, starting a business, minimalism, and even building a tiny house or, in my case, a van).

Many maps, one on top of the other

What Do You Do?

I want to hear from you! I have shared a few things about what I do for fun.

I started with three, which morphed into a few more, my bad.

Maybe some of the things I listed you are interested in as well. Maybe it got you thinking about some that I didn’t include.

Life is full of adventures and things to do. I want to hear from you. The question I have for today is:

What do you do for fun?

Or better yet,

What is your next adventure?

    • Thanks! I’m interested in learning what you are doing this weekend. But it sounds fun, getting out and about is good these days! It’s also nice that some of the restrictions are loosening.
