As I write this, I’m on a road trip. It’s been a great trip, but there are some days (like today) when I really need a shower.
Not only that, but I’ve been talking with people along the way about this new way to shower.
I previously wrote about How To Shower On The Road. And I still use everything in that post, but I might have found a different and better way.
You will find that it’s quick, easy, and very convenient. Not only that, but it’s one of the cheapest options I’ve found!
There are many options to shower on the road, but I’m very excited to share this one with you!
Shower Systems To Purchase
We all know about the expensive portable shower systems you can buy. I’ve seen a few people using them over the last week, and they look really cool.
I talked with one guy that paid over $500 for his!
If you are always on the go, you might like to know the best way to stay clean while on outdoor adventures. You, like me, might have made or purchased a shower sprayer.
Unfortunately, there are so many options out right now that it’s almost crazy.
Baby Wipes – Quick and Easy?
The one I seem to use most often, that is until now, has been baby wipes.
As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, there is something that I cannot stand when using them. There is always a strange, almost sticky feeling, so you use another one.
As far as quick and easy, they have that going for them. And something is better than nothing.
There has to be something better. So for the last year, I have been reading what others have used, watching videos, and most importantly, buying products that I thought “might work.”
Most of them are just like using regular baby wipes. But why spend TONS of money when you can get a huge pack at a discount warehouse.
It’s amazing how many people rebrand products and charges more, all while you know they are just normal baby wipes.
My New Shower Option!
That’s when I found the answer I have been waiting to share with you.
The product is called Scrubzz, and I think you should try it.
Scrubzz is the best shower alternative I have found to date.
Since using the Scrubzz daily (on my road trip), I have been surprised at how well they work.
Cost
I purchased my first bag of these for $8.49 (since I think the cost is closer to $9, I will put a link for the current price). So after tax, I paid a total of $9.20.
You get 25 sponges in the pack, making each sponge worth .37 cents.
If you look at the sponge, it measures just over 7″ x 7″. That is a pretty big sponge to use.
If you do what I did and cut them in half (much easier to use and clean yourself with), that makes each “shower” only .18 cents!
Not a bad price to make sure you stay clean.
Stuff I Like
What this comes down to is convenience. Yes, you can use other wipes, but I haven’t found they work as well as these do. So for my list of reasons why I like them and will continue to use them.
- Easy to use
- A minimal amount of water needed (less than you think you need)
- Portable (you can take these anywhere)
- They Don’t dry out (like other types of wipes)
- Lightweight
- Cost is worth it
Things To Consider
There is a slight smell to them. I would prefer them to be odorless, but most wet wipes have been sent to them again.
You need two things in addition to the Scrubzz Sponge. One is a small amount of water, and the other is a clean, dry towel to use these.
This doesn’t bother me, as I already have what is needed, but I can see others not liking it in one package (like a wet wipe).
One con could be a big one for some of you. As I’m looking at the sponge itself, I don’t think these are biodegradable. You dispose of them in the garbage, but I don’t know how eco-friendly they truly are. If you know more about this, please let me know in the comments below!
Why You Should Try Them
If you want to know if I recommend them, the answer is YES!
The Scrubzz are so versatile. It’s crazy. I really do mean that. You can take them everywhere!
I’m sure I’ll list out a few of the ideas below, but if you are reading this section, a few ideas I’m thinking about include camping, road-tripping, great if you just had surgery (thanks, Mum for trying them), the gym, want to clean your hands (without hand sanitizer), or anytime you need a quick wash up.
Not only that, but these were perfect for when there is a pandemic (or any other emergency), and you want to get clean.
These are going to be your new go-to item. For me, I keep them in a plastic back in my car, camping gear, hiking pack, my bug-out (or 72-hour) bag, emergency kit, and gym bag.

Great For All Types of Travel
Being on my Epic Road trip (2.0) and have been using Scrubzz. I’ve used them in the past, but I have put them to the test this trip.
I’ve been hiking in sweltering temperatures and use these at night instead of showering. As a result, I don’t feel sticky and, instead, feel clean and refreshed.
These sponges take up way less room than my portable sprayer and are much easier to use.
I only use my small spray bottle to lightly wet the Scrubzz sponge (less water is better) and wipe it away. I then use a clean cloth to go back over my skin, and all is good. There is a slight odor, but it’s not bad.
It’s a relief to have these, and I’m ordering more when I get home.
Another thing that I did was cut a few into quarters. This is the perfect size to clean my legs and feet. At the very least, I’ve been doing this every night. I think that is one reason I have yet to get any blisters (I’m prone to them and am so happy I haven’t gotten any on this trip yet)!
There Are Always Options
I wanted to add this because I always like having options. What works for me might not work for you.
But if you want an inexpensive way to stay clean while traveling, Scrubzz is the way to go.
They don’t take up much room, use minimal water, and are easy to use. A few places I’ve used them as of this posting include
- Road trips
- Gym
- After working outside
- Bike rides
- Camping
- Backpacking
- Quick clean-up when time is important
- Travel
- Emergency preparation (I have a few in my bug out bag)
Different shower options are important if you want to stay clean (especially on the road or in emergencies).
I’ve found that baby wipes dry out if you leave them in your car (Scrubzz sponges don’t). As a side note, I also never keep my portable shower sprayer in my car (but I do keep Scrubzz in my glovebox).
All you need to do is have a small amount of water and a towel, and you are good to go.
Since converting my Rav, I adventure outdoors every chance I get. Knowing this is all, I now need help with the space issue inside a small SUV.
You really can take this anywhere. And, after 2020, you never know what will happen. So give them a try today, and then let me know what you think about them in the comments below!
If I missed anything or you have additional questions, let me know in the comments below.
Just remember, I’m on my road trip, and it might take a few days to get back to you.
I wondered people who are always travelling how they shower. Hotels are expensive so it can’t be easy at all. It’s good they invented these showers.
However they are expensive and take up much space as you stated, and I don’t think people have that much space. The one you recommend seem to be in the middle.
Baby wipes are not the solution either (I actually wonder how people can use that?). Thanks for sharing your ideas.
These Scrubzz are honestly the way to go. I did mention other ways to shower, but these worked so well on my road trip I’m recommending them to everyone.
But, nothing replaces an actual shower. I often use a gym membership, but there are also other ways (like going to a truck stop). Safe travels!
Hi Eric, Your website says “enjoying the small things in life” How true. I hadn’t even thought of taking baby wipes on a trip for a shower. I guess it would be one answer to keeping clean. But as you say, they are prone to dry out, and some can be quite flimsy. That sounds like you have come up on a great plan. The frugal side of me would probably start out with a spray bottle of water and a wash cloth. What I would do when the water ran out, I don’t know. And eventually I would like a clean cloth. You have done more traveling than I and have more experience needing to clean up after a sweaty day on the trail. That is definitely something I should look into and may enjoy the convenience of using them. Thanks again for the info!
Hi Carolyn, thanks again for stopping by.
And yes, wipes can dry out. In fact, it’s been scorching in the Western US, and I noticed all my wipes are dry. Which is a bummer, but guess what still works? My Scrubzz! They have been great, easy to use, and at an excellent price (even better since I cut them in half).
If you end up giving them a try, come back and let me know what you think.
We are all glad to read that you are staying clean. Seriously. That can be quite the challenge when you don’t have porcelain and running water.
I’m happy to be your guinea pig for new products. These wipes made my life better after surgery. Waiting three days to shower was difficult. So thank you for introducing me to these wipes!
Baby wipes always dry out. So frustrating and a waste of money. These are awesome because they will never dry out! I love that they take up so little space. So easy to use too!
The slight odor is minimal and acceptable in my opinion. I have a highly sensitive sniffer, so that says a lot.
I know, right! I was, and still am, very surprised at how amazing these things are. I really do think you should cut them in half, too, because they are so large. But everyone is different.
As for being able to get a quick wipe down whenever these are a game changer.
This topic is right up my alley I’m so glad you wrote your post, me being a prepper, you have to think about keeping clean for extended periods of time is very important.
You see I have a trailer and I call it my camping survival kit in this trailer I have room for all the needs but if I had these Scrubzz, a package of these would open up a lot of room in my trailer kit.
And you know these would be great for truck drivers I drove for 7 years and sometimes showers are hard to come by I believe I found a win-win thank you very much for your article sir.
Thank You,
Bill Wright
I have been a prepper for years but don’t have as much room as it sounds like you do. These are perfect for what you are talking about. Not only that but as I mentioned, I cut them in half (and put them in a ziploc bag) to save more space.
Thanks for the awesome comment and hope these will help boost up your kits.
So what makes the sponges a good option? is it strictly because they don’t leave a feeling on you? could that be due to the fact you are using water with them? I’ve always used baby wipes in a pinch and I don’t see anything these sponges provide that could not be accomplished by washing off after a baby wipe.
You are true, but there are a few reasons why the Scrubzz is better than baby wipes:
First, they don’t leave a sticky feeling on your skin (but yes, you could use extra water to fix that). The biggest benefit of Scrubzz, in my eyes, is they don’t break apart like many baby wipes do (I’ve had the issues of baby wipes ripping as I’m using them, or better yet, trying to get them out of the package). And last, I’m able to use half a sponge on my entire body. If they stop working, I add some additional water and continue wiping down. At least for me, I have to use multiple baby wipes to cover the same ground.
Again, Scrubzz is just something I wanted to share to provide another shower option. As I wrote in my post, there are many different ways to “clean” oneself while on the go. Since being on my road trip, they were truly a game-changer for me. I also realized, so far, none of my friends have even heard about them.
Hi Eric,
Thank you for sharing this great post. I really enjoyed reading it!
We often go on camping trips, and our main problem is the shower. So we always camp in camping clubs to not worry about the shower and the toilets. There are beautiful places to camp, but we don’t go since there are no amenities there. I didn’t know there are shower sprayers out there. Now that I know, I will be able to go camping in the wilderness. Are there portable toilets too? If so, I would love to know what are the best ones for camping trips.
Thank you for this useful post, and I am looking forward to reading more in the future.
That’s awesome and glad I could lend a helping hand.
There are a few options for portable toilets. It really depends on what you want to spend and what is comfortable for you. To start, I would suggest a 5-gallon bucket with a water noodle (or foam pipe insolation) that you wrap around the bucket. If you don’t want to do that, something I’ve used in the past is called the Luggable Loo.
After trying out a few different portable toilets, the one I made not only takes up little space but is also comfortable, set up in no time, and was under $20. If you want to know more, let me know!
And on a side note, I also have a privacy tent that has truly been a game-changer for me. It sets up extremely fast and can be used for a few things (shower, bathroom, or even an area to change).
These are great little inventions. I have had the pleasure if trying a few out over the past few years. free of charge i must add. When you work at clearing up the mess all week after a festival event in the heat, you really cant beat a hose down and many of the events we work at, the facilities go as soon as the show stops. So these are great.
Thanks for sharing. And using these with the hose would be a perfect combination.
