Goals are essential to have in life. Without them, we wouldn’t achieve anything.

Since it’s the begining of the year, this has been on the top of everyones mind. But, setting goals doesn’t need to be rocket science.

Today, in this quick post, we are going to discuss the three steps I take to ahieve my goals.

You might not know where to start, or you have tried to set goals in the past but have failed to meet them. This could include anything you set to achieve in your personal life, business-related, or something fun.

The best way, I’ve found, is to set smaller milestones to reach the primary goal. It allows you to feel mini-wins before the battle if you will.

As you may already know, my current goal is to make $1,000 extra every month.
This money will be invested back into the business and pay for my websites and supplies for the company.

Goal setting isn’t a get-rich-quick mentality. Depending on the goal, it will take time.

So, let’s cover how you can set goals to make sure you achieve them.

Why Should You Set Goals?

This is the vital question that we need to ask ourselves. Why?

Goals aren’t something that you dream up and don’t take action. You’ve got to do the work.

But, the work is best completed by taking small daily steps to keep moving forward.

The first and most important thing to do is write the goal down.

There’s something about putting it down in writing that makes you think about it more. You might realize the goal will be a huge undertaking and almost stressful.

But this is when having a second tip comes in handy.

We are going to use this one goal to make many smaller goals.

An example of this is my goal of writing more.

Initially, that was my goal, but as you can see, it’s very vague. Where do you even know where to start? Instead, let’s break this goal into smaller goals (in this example, I decided to write 500 words daily for a month).

The crazy thing is that it was a few months ago, and most days, I’m still doing it! This means the goal of writing more has been achieved, surpassed, and has become a routine!

Another goal that you might have, too, is starting a side hustle!
Stay tuned, as I want to post a few additional articles that could help you on your path!

Setting Goals and Achieving Them

Our first step in setting goals is to sit down and write a few goals you have down on paper

Keep this simple. Remember, it can be personal, business-related, or something fun.

If you don’t know where to start, try focusing on goals to become better, healthier, and even more willing to help others. I mention this because it’s been on my mind and why I wanted to write this post.

If you need more motivation, setting a timeline could be helpful.

As for me, I only do that on goals that require a schedule (such as writing more, working out, or even starting my business).

My Goals

If you read the About Me page, you might have noticed that my goals are general, but I can make them specific for different situations.

The broad goals are helping others, enjoying life, and starting my own business.

This process for me started a few years ago. I realized that I didn’t enjoy the work I was doing.

I worked hard to achieve my career but wasn’t happy. It took me a long time to realize, but I decided to make a HUGE change.

This change has allowed me to focus on what makes me happy and now have extra time and focus on what I want in my life.

Okay, let’s get back to setting goals, as you know, I sometimes get sidetracked.

By now, you have your goal (or goals) written down.

For me, that is to write more. To be honest, I never dreamed of having people read my stuff, so thanks!

Our next step is to break the BIG goal down into smaller bites.

This part of the process can take a lot of work, but it will help you stay on track.

Think about this, most New Year’s Resolutions don’t last past March!

Intrigued? You can read more about it here.

This year it’s going to change for you!

And remember the old saying or joke, “How do you eat an elephant?” The answer is one bite at a time.

Creating smaller goals along the way to your larger goal will help you stay motivated. Before you know it, your goal will be achieved, and you will look for others!

It’s Your Turn – What’s Your Goal?

Hopefully, by now, you have an idea of one way to set your own goals.

To help, here are three steps you can take to achieve any goal you have.

  1. Have a primary goal in mind
  2. Write down your main goal on paper
  3. Last, break it into smaller achievable goals

There you have it. Now it’s your turn! If you feel like sharing, drop a comment below on your goal.

Maybe you are returning to school, taking an online class, reading more, starting your own business, or building your blog.

Let Us Know in the Comments Below!

Setting goals, however large or small, is a great way to get the most out of this life.

It’s okay to have large and small goals. The point is to take a step in the right direction.

I love the quote saying that every journey starts with the first step.

  1. Setting Goals. That may be one of the hardest parts of looking and finding a way to break away from the others. Setting goals will require looking at where you want to be in a year, five years and ten years. You will want to select which goals are a priority and what order to put them in. Once you have established your goals, review them often to see what needs to change in your list of priorities. Make the changes while keeping a close watch on the results you have gained so far.

    • I couldn’t agree with you more. It’s really about having a plan and making small goals to achieve your larger (year, five, and ten years) goals.
