It’s fun to say that I’ve received several questions about outdoor adventures.
Therefore, it is time to compile a page dedicated to providing answers for them.
Please note if you have a question that’s not answered here, let me know, and I’ll add it.
I found a typo. Can I contact you?
This is extremely important to me, and YES, don’t hesitate to contact me. I request that you provide the URL of the post that needs the correction.
What is the best way to get ahold of you?
The best way is to go here (there is a contact form, or email me).
How did you get into blogging?
That’s a long story.
But, to keep it short and sweet, I wanted a way to share my experience and help people get outside.
Life has a way of always creating stress, and there is just something about spending time outdoors. We all have problems and pain, but if you spend some time outdoors (daily if possible or at least once a week), you’d be surprised at how much better you feel.
To start, I would suggest taking a five-minute walk when you can. If you don’t think you have time for that, let me know after reading this post. I know we can all find at least five minutes.
How did you learn about blogging, setting up websites, etc.?
Wilde Escape isn’t my first website; I’m sure it won’t be the last.
What makes this site special is that I focus on what I enjoy. There is a lot of it, so I’ve spent time dividing everything to make it easier to navigate.
What helped me start to grow is this program, which I have written a lot about.
Does your blog contain affiliate links?
It does!
Many people don’t understand that if you click on a link (that happens to be an affiliate link), it doesn’t cost you more.
If you end up purchasing something from my link, again, it doesn’t cost you anything. I earn a small commission. It’s the business’s way of saying thanks for me referring you.
The best part is that with that small commission, I find out what products you like and will focus more on writing more about them.
Additionally, that is how I can pay for Wilde Escape (it’s not cheap having a website; there’s a lot of time and money invested).
Do you have ideas on how I can get into affiliate marketing?
I’m so glad you asked.
Check out my review here to learn about what I do. An added bonus is a free signup page to get started today!
If you have any questions, let me know. I enjoy affiliate marketing and have helped many people start their journeys.
What is your favorite hiking gear?
This is a super difficult question.
I’ve always enjoyed gear, which compounded once I started working in the outdoor industry.
Recently, I’ve started trying to minimize what I use and purchase, mainly because I want to become a minimalist and live with less.
That also means that my favorite gear always serves more than one function.
Can you review a specific product?
If there is an outdoor product you want me to review, YES!
I’m all ears and love learning about new stuff. Additionally, chances are that I have already used it and would be excited to write about it.
Recently, I started a section of this blog specifically for reviewing outdoor gear. I’m slowly building this; the more ideas you have, the better!
Also, please email me and let me know what you think about the new website.
What are the benefits of spending time outdoors?
This can be an entire blog post on its own.
But I think about a few things when people ask me this question. Some of the benefits I’ve found include:
- Reduced stress
- Enhanced creativity
- Better physical health
- Improved mental well-being
How can I start incorporating outdoor activities into my daily routine?
It’s interesting how many people want to know about this.
It’s very simple. Just start small.
For those new to physical activities or spending a lot of time in a chair, start by taking short walks. It’s crazy how much better you feel after a five-minute walk outside.
Enjoy your meals outside or schedule outdoor breaks if that seems too much.
I’ve even heard of CEOs and businesses that will only have meetings outside!
It comes down to starting small and gradually increasing the duration and variety of activities to make it a habit. Then you can do some epic hikes, like this one!
What are some beginner-friendly outdoor activities?
See the above question first, but if you want some additional ideas:
- Hiking
- Picnics
- Cycling
- Walking
- Gardening
- Bird watching
The list goes on, but start with finding out what makes you happy to get outside. Then go from there!
Do you have any tips for camping beginners?
This could be another blog post on its own.
If you really have a question about this, please let me know. I’m more than willing to get into it.
I would suggest starting with car camping. You don’t need much to get started, and you can have a super comfortable setup.
If you want to get into where to go, that varies depending on your location. Start by researching local camping areas or if you are in the West US, check out BLM land!
For gear, you want the following:
- Sleeping System (pad, sleeping bag, pillow, and a tent)
- If you sleep in a tent, practice setting it up at home.
- Clothing appropriate for the weather (also make sure you have sturdy footwear)
- Cooking System (stove, fuel, cup, bowl, spoon, and a fire starter)
- Map and compass
- Food and Water
- First aid kit
Are there any health considerations when spending extended time outdoors?
Yes, there are. Here are a few things to be aware of:
- Pack and wear sunscreen
- Stay hydrated (if you are thirsty, you waited too long)
- Be aware of the weather (mountain conditions can quickly change).
Consider a healthcare professional if you have health concerns before engaging in strenuous activities.
How can I motivate myself to go outdoors, especially if I’m not outdoorsy?
This is such a great question. Many times, I find it tough to get motivated myself. But here is something to keep in mind. I’ve never retreated from spending the day outside.
To help you get motivated, find activities that align with your interests, invite friends or family to join you, set specific goals, and focus on positive outcomes, such as improved mood and well-being.
Are there any safety tips for outdoor activities?
If you are like me, you go out solo. So, if that is the case, it’s very important to inform someone of your plans, know your surroundings, carry a first aid kit, and check weather conditions.
It also doesn’t hurt to learn basic navigation skills, and please remember to follow Leave No Trace principles!
What are some budget-friendly outdoor activities for families?
Nature walks, park picnics, geocaching, and DIY camping in your backyard are budget-friendly outdoor activities for families.
How can I find local outdoor events or groups to join?
Check community bulletin boards, social media groups, local parks and recreation websites, or use apps like Meetup to discover outdoor events and groups in your area.
What are the best outdoor activities for different seasons?
- Spring: Hiking, camping, and even birdwatching.
- Summer: Swimming, walks, and camping.
- Fall: Leaf peeping or try apple picking.
- Winter: Skiing, snowshoeing.
Are there any apps or resources to help plan outdoor adventures?
There are so many apps that you can use.
The ones I’ve used for a long time include AllTrails, OnX Backcountry, REI Co-op, and Google Maps, which can assist in finding trails, parks, and outdoor activities.
I’ve started enjoying OnX Backcountry way more than AllTrails. So much that I only have OnX Backcountry on my phone!
Websites like Outdoor Project and The Outbound also provide detailed guides and recommendations.
How do I deal with inclement weather during outdoor activities?
I’m someone that likes to have a plan. But in nature, your plans can quickly change.
So, to be as much repaired as possible, check the weather forecast before heading out, dress appropriately, and carry rain gear.
It’s important to be flexible with plans and have an indoor alternative or embrace the elements for a unique experience.
How can I encourage my children to enjoy the outdoors?
I’ve gotten a few emails about this question. I will add something here: I do not have kids, but I’m a cool Uncle.
Make outdoor activities fun, involve them in planning, explore nature together, and let them choose activities. Consider nature-themed games, scavenger hunts, and camping in the backyard.
There are quite a few camping with kids blogs out there. Here is one blog to start with.
Do you offer freelance writing?
Wow, another question that I’m so happy you asked about.
Yes, I offer freelance writing services. Click the link to learn more.
