Are you looking for a rechargeable water pump that is easy to use and take anywhere?
Look no further!
I recently found the best rechargeable portable water pump powered via USB, which has been a game changer.
Not only can it be taken anywhere, but it also has an auto-dispense feature for quick, hands-free fill.
I’m not going to lie. I’ve wanted one of these for about a year.
It took me a while to buy this water pump. Mainly due to using my basic seven-gallon Reliance jug has worked great for years.
But I wanted something I didn’t have to tip on its side when I wanted water.
Not to mention, I could never fill anything without opening my door!
This inconvenience of opening my door is due to where I have it placed inside my Rav (passenger floorboard).
This keeps it away from the back, but when it’s raining, having to open a door, move the jug, pour the water while squatting, and getting soaked from the rain isn’t fun.
Well, it just sucks.
This pump changed everything, and I’m excited to show you how I use it.
Also, I mentioned that I have one of the Reliance jugs, and this pump works perfectly.
I have also used this pump on an average 5-gallon Alhambra-type bottle. It worked just the same. You have to get one of these!
To make my situation even more practical, I converted the Reliance water spigot and couldn’t be happier!
Maybe you are wondering if this gadget is needed.
If you are new here, I like checking things out that are practical and make life easier while on the road. But since you asked, let’s go over that now.
Do You Need It?
Suppose the first section of this post didn’t convince you. Let’s go over if this is something you need.
To be honest, no.
But it will allow you to do many more things more accessible, like filling bottles and washing dishes.
Do you need a Rechargeable Water Pump?
There are quite a few of these pumps on the market. I almost purchased one that you pump with one hand, but then I realized I wanted something easy to use.
Anyone can operate it (versus lifting a 5-gallon jug to fill a cup), and it is rechargeable.
Here are a few of the features and why you should try it for yourself:
- It’s rechargeable! Each charge will last around 30 days! I have yet to have to recharge it. And yes, it’s been sitting for a few months and still works.
- It can work with a variety of larger bottles.
- So easy to use, just a push of a button.
Something to note, If you use the water jugs you get at local stores, make sure the top of the bottle doesn’t have threads (it must be smooth), and you may want to consider silicone caps to use when you don’t have the water pump attached.
What is Awesome About This Water Pump
If you missed it, here are more of the features:
- Auto Dispense
- Use it with Reliance jugs.
- Compact Size and Lightweight
- Fits one to five-gallon water jugs
- Hands-Free Fill (one button to pump and autostop when reaching a specific volume of water, and has auto 300ml, 500ml, and one litter fill)
Here is how I’m using this amazing water pump.
Remember, I already had a seven-gallon Reliance water jug.
Since this has an excellent adjustable flow cap, I purchased a Reliance Replacement Spigot Assembly.
This goes back to having options, as well as if I ever get a new water jug, I can switch back to the original Reliance spigot. Options can be a good thing.
This is so I can use this jug with the original spigot or with the water pump. Options are a good thing.
The next few steps are pretty straightforward.
- First, I made sure the replacement cap worked.
- Then I took off the part that has the spigot and cut that part off.
- All that remained was about a two-inch nub on which the water pump fit perfectly!
- Fill the Reliance jug with water (to test, I only put about a gallon in it).
- I then inserted the silicone tubing into the pump, and the other end was placed in the water through the cap.
- After fitting the water pump on the two-inch nub, I hit the power button, and the water came out!
Just note it takes a moment for the water to run up the silicone tubing before being dispensed.
If you want to save money, I’m sure there would be a way to find a two-inch piece of PVC that would fit the cap.
If you discover something that worked, let me know in the comments below!
The Cost
You might think a portable, lightweight, easy-to-use water pump will break the bank.
Well, my friend, you would be wrong.
My total cost of this Amazon water pump was under $20!
This is due to already having the Reliance seven-gallon jug, but a similar one was found on Amazon.
The Water Pump that I purchased was on sale for $13.49!
The current cost, as of this post, is $14.99. I would say this is still worth every penny!
I also purchased the replacement spigot assembly for $6.
Just note the replacement assembly isn’t needed. I purchased it because I wanted the option of having the spigot if ever needed.
You don’t need to buy anything extra if you already have a Reliance jug or one of those one, three, or five-gallon jugs.
Something interesting to note.
After using this on several camping trips, I realized the water pump sometimes separated from the modified spigot assembly.
To fix this, I used a paracord tied around the water pump to the jug. This worked, but I found a better way.
I used a hot glue gun to attach the water pump to the modified spigot.
So far, it’s worked great and looks better than having a paracord wrapped around it.
Bonus Video for You!
I often reference Tristan’s videos and website if you’ve read other posts. Below is an amazing video and how I solved the issue of the water pump falling off.
After all, it’s not often we stay on paved roads.
As I’m sure you can see, he explains everything about the filter and how he fixed it.
I’m unsure if he’ll ever see this, but I hope he knows how much I appreciate his work and websites!
This Water Pump Is Worth It!
Heck Yes! A rechargeable water pump has been a great addition to the Rav4 camping setup.
The surprising thing is that it has an auto-fill feature. It is handy when washing hands or filling up a cup.
Being a small and lightweight item means it’s easy to take along, but if you do, you will never want to go without it again!
Overall, this water pump is invaluable for anyone who loves camping and exploring nature. It truly makes life easier!
There is only one complaint I have about this purchase. It took me over a year to buy it.
Please don’t do what I did for less than $15 (and with Amazon’s free return policy).
Get yours today, and then let me know what you think!
To be honest, I am not much of a camper. But this is great information for everyone.
Most people have been in a car and need water. I love this has a hands-free feature!
It is a big deal to anyone that has had to exit a vehicle during inclement weather, or when there’s a possibility of encountering wildlife. Or, when mosquitoes are in abundance.
Thank you for sharing your experience with how to attach and use this device. The details are very helpful.
One of the reasons I read your blogs is because they are practical. Both in cost, and purpose.
Keep on sharing with us what you’ve done and how it’s working!
There are tons of people that have similar setups in their rigs, but this one is by far one of the easiest and cheapest I’ve found. Not to mention it’s so much more convenient!
